| "Pig-faced" Bascinet |

Evolving in the latter part of
the 14th century as an effort to solve the cumbersome nature of the Great
helm and the lack of protection of the Spangen helm, this helm sported a
visor which projected very strongly in a point and was therefore named the
"pigface" or "dogface" bascinet. The full coif of chainmail
was shortened to an "aventail" and was suspended from the bottom
of the helm to guard the neck. This helm, worn with a chainmail shirt, and
accompanied by the 14th century harness would be an essentially historically
correct outfit. Black with gold or silver trim. Adjustable leather liner.
